Wix Website Building Reflection
Creating a website as an e-portfolio benefits me greatly. I usually keep my work in a paper file or as a collection in my room. However, if my work is digital, it is better to upload it to a website so that I can easily share it with others. Also, it is convenient for me to click a button to view my work. I would like to present my work in an e-portfolio to others to showcase what I have learned during this semester.
Creating an e-portfolio has had a significant impact on me. When I was a senior in university, my professor asked us to use Wix to create an e-portfolio. While posting my work online, I was able to review what I had done in class and present it as a learning experience when applying for scholarships, master's programs, and other opportunities.
In my teaching, I encourage students to create e-portfolios to record what they have accomplished during the semester or in English camp. I require students to create digital files of their work. If their projects are not digital, I teach them how to convert them into digital files, such as by taking a photo or scanning their work. After that, I guide them through the process of posting their work online. In my opinion, this is a great way to showcase what they have learned over a certain period. Additionally, they can share their work with peers by sending each other the link.
While creating my e-portfolio, I encountered some challenges. For example, I kept my content within the designated lines, but when I viewed it on the website, some content extended beyond the boundaries. Also, I did not like the font style and had to change each one individually. I think it would be more convenient if I could change the font all at once. Another challenge was designing the layout of the webpage, as I was unsure whether my page decorations were appropriate.
To overcome these difficulties, I tried different methods to address them. First of all, I made sure to avoid placing content too close to the dotted guidelines, even though I had initially kept it within the lines. Secondly, since I still do not know how to change the font for all text at once, I decided to select my desired font before I started typing. Lastly, although I am not skilled in designing webpage layouts, I followed some basic principles. For example, I avoided using dark-colored decorative images that could obscure the content and refrained from using moving images as the background. Furthermore, I limited the text colors to two to maintain readability and avoid overwhelming the reader with too many colors.
